RRS Sir David Attenborough fitted out by family run supplier

SOUTHERN Contracts, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of industrial laundry, catering and commercial cleaning equipment has recently revealed their connection to RRS Sir David Attenborough.

The family-run company, whose head office was established in 1964 in Bournemouth, was chosen from a long list of contenders to supply and fit all the catering and laundry equipment on the now famous £200m ship when it was first commissioned back in 2016.

Built by Cammel Laird in Birkenhead, the 12 storey vessel is owned by the Natural Environment Research Council and operated by the British Antarctic Survey for the purposes of both research and logistic support and will carry 28 crew and 60 scientists.  Originally called Boaty McBoatface, it has more aptly been renamed RRS Sir David Attenborough, although the mini-submarine onboard will retain the Boaty McBoatface identity.

Adam Elphinstone, MD of Southern Contracts said: ”We are very proud to be selected to provide the equipment aboard this prestigious – and now widely renowned – ship.

“As a family-run business we have worked with Cammell Laird for many years to build a professional and cherished relationship, so when they mentioned RRS Sir David Attenborough, how could we refuse?!”

To cater for the needs of the 90 passengers on board, Southern Contracts have provided top of the range professional laundry and galley equipment.  They now have an enviable reputation as the supplier of commercial laundry and galley machines to a range of industries including marine, leisure, housing associations, local authorities and care sectors, to name but a few.  They pride themselves on delivering the very best products and service to customers as can be evidenced by their client testimonials.
